When Jess checked the label on her deodorant, she found a lot of harmful and scary ingredients. While aluminum and aluminum derivatives serve as antiperspirants, they have also been connected to Alzheimer’s disease and other health issues. She also found parabens listed on the label of her deodorant. Parabens are used as a preservative. However, they’re also estrogen disruptors, which have been linked to breast cancer and reproductive system issues. Who wants to put that on their bodies?

So Jess decided to make her own, homemade deodorant and antiperspirant. She wanted it to be effective, yet gentle, and (of course) non-toxic.

Her recipe includes a number of oils, soothing Shea butter, a powder that helps to draw out toxins, optional essential oils, and an ingredient I’ve never seen in a homemade deodorant before. This ingredient draws out moisture and toxins and is mildly exfoliating. It’s a creative and unique recipe!

Jess provides clear directions on how to make the deodorant, helpful links to various ingredients, and important usage directions. If you don’t have time to make this recipe, she has it for sale in her online store. Finally, check out all of the helpful comments at the end of her article.
